Mandatum is making progress toward its goal of reducing the emissions from its investments to net zero by setting emission-reduction targets for 2030.
Mandatum joined the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative in 2024 and committed to achieving net-zero emissions from its investments by 2050. To reinforce this goal, the company has set the first interim targets for the emissions from its assets under management. The aim is to reduce the carbon intensity* of its direct listed equities and corporate bonds by 75 per cent by 2030, compared to the 2020 baseline.
“Our climate efforts take a long-term approach, and the carbon intensity of our investments has steadily decreased over the years. To reach our net-zero goal, the next step involves creating a transition plan outlining the key measures needed to reach our targets. These include, through active ownership and engagement, promoting change in the business models of our portfolio companies and thereby in actual emissions. In addition, efforts to extend the targets to other asset classes continue as planned”, says Mandatum’s Head of Responsible Investments Sari Rajakangas.
Simultaneously, Mandatum has also set interim targets for its own operations. The aim is to reduce the company’s greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 42 per cent by 2030, compared to the 2024 baseline.
Progress toward meeting the emission-reduction targets is reported annually.
