Investor event 2023

Mandatum’s first Investor event was held in Helsinki on September 14, 2023. The programme included the presentation of the company’s strategy, strengths and financial targets.

A review of Mandatum as an investment

The Chair of Mandatum’s Board of Directors, Patrick Lapveteläinen, and the CEO of Mandatum Group, Petri Niemisvirta, presented the company’s strategy, strengths and targets. The CEO of Mandatum Asset Management, Lauri Vaittinen, and CFO Jukka Kurki presented in more detail Mandatum’s capital-light business area and its growth potential, as well as the with-profit business area and the company’s economic development.

The core of Mandatum’s strategy is to focus on capital-light business that enables growth while the capital-heavy legacy portfolio of with-profit policies is being run-off in a planned manner. Mandatum sees that its key strengths lie in three areas: a proven foundation, clear growth path and a strong balance sheet and solvency position.

Financial targets

  • Over the medium-term, Mandatum aims to achieve annual net flows equal to at least 5 per cent of unit-linked and other client assets under management.
  • Over the medium-term, Mandatum is targeting a solvency ratio between 170–200 per cent.
  • Mandatum aims to distribute EUR 500 million in dividends to shareholders between 2024–2026, with potential for extra capital distributions.

Q&A

Partial demerger

Mandatum Group will be separated from Sampo Group through a partial demerger in which all of the shares in Mandatum Holding Ltd and related assets and liabilities have been transferred, without a liquidation procedure, to Mandatum plc, a new company incorporated in the demerger. Sampo’s Annual General Meeting on 17 May 2023 resolved to approve the partial demerger as set forth in the demerger plan, and the planned effective date of the demerger is 1 October 2023. Trading in Mandatum’s shares on Nasdaq Helsinki is expected to begin on 2 October 2023.

The demerger is a significant event for Mandatum, and it will increase its strategic and financial margin. The demerger is expected to offer Mandatum the opportunity to capitalise on its already strong market position and implement its growth strategy as an independent company.
